Defining a Space

I can’t stress enough on how adding an area rug can help define a space. Whether it is in your living room, bedroom or outdoor porch, an area rug grounds the furnishings, adds comfort to your feet and helps bring the whole space together!

A lot of homeowners steer away from area rugs because they are worried about the cleanability factor, resistance in high traffic areas and the potential of odor/destruction from pets. The good news is that there are great options on the market today to meet these needs without comprising on the aesthetics.

Tip #1: If you are looking for an outdoor rug, make sure the area rug is in fact made for the outdoors. Read the label to ensure the product is UV protected and weather resistant. Remember, as the summer season comes to an end, you must store the rug indoors to prolong its lifespan.

Tip #2: If you have a pet who tends to destroy your beloved furnishings, source synthetic rugs with a cut pile. Loose woven area rugs pose as a risk, especially with cats, because their nails get caught in the loops leading to a bunch of pulls - not so pretty!

Tip #3: I recommend purchasing a rug underpad. It not only keeps the rug in place, but adds cushion to flat woven rugs and protects your hardwood flooring from scratches by the rug backing.
